It's Canadian Environment Week!
We’re working to reduce our environmental impact to help build more resilient and sustainable communities.
Did you know?
1. Construction and demolition waste is one of the largest contributors to municipal waste in Canada.
2. 45% of global carbon emissions are generated through the manufacture of new products.
3. 98% of insurance waste ends up in landfills in North America.
4. The overwhelming majority of rebuilds or repairs after claims occur use traditional, emissions-intensive materials.
As an industry, we need to do better.
Inspired by our vision to catalyze a resilient and sustainable society, in 2022, we launched two new sustainable claims solutions to help reduce our environmental impact. Since this launch, we’ve reduced emissions associated with our claims processes by 60.3 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (MT CO2e). That’s equivalent to:
Beyond the environmental benefits, we’ve also saved over $400,000 in claims costs through these sustainable practices, which we’ll reinvest into our Resilience and Sustainability program, exploring ways to continue to enhance products and services that help us build strong, resilient, and sustainable communities in a rapidly changing world.
And that’s just from our first 115 claims in just two provinces over the first few months! Imagine what could be possible as we continue to scale this program across Canada.
Together, we can help build the circular economy.
